I see people recommending Debian but you also said you enjoy tinkering, so I’d recommend SpiralLinux. It’s basically Debian but it uses BTRFS so you can roll back to a previous snapshot if you break something. I don’t think Spiral has updated to Trixie yet so you’d need to manually upgrade but that’s not too big a hassle if you do it immediately.

California is not the center of the universe, but in the US, a fair amount of companies have to tailor their practices to accommodate California law, because A) it’s so weird a lot of the time, and B) California is huge and rich, so there’s a lot of business to be had. It just makes sense to accommodate the outlier. What happens in California has knock-on effects for the rest of the country, and occasionally the rest of the world; case in point, the recent systemd debacle. It’s not certain that they added the age thing in response to the California law specifically, but it was certainly a factor.

Lotta people here who apparently aren’t familiar with e-bikes, talking about how e-bikes perform. My RadRunner 2 has only ever hit 27 mph (43 kph?) going downhill on a steep incline, meanwhile I’m getting passed by dudes on $5000 fancy-ass racing bicycles. Not really sure why I’m the one who needs the license.

(Also: I wish e-bikes were the biggest problem on bike paths here in Kentucky. I have encountered Actual Legit Gasoline-Powered Fucking Motorcycles many, many, MANY times on the Louisville Loop.)

OK but the point of ChubbyEmu videos isn’t “this thing is GOING TO KILL YOU,” it’s “look at this weird thing that happened and the toxicology behind it,.” In fact, he goes out of his way to reassure people that these things aren’t likely to happen in the videos where viewers might get anxious, like the cases involving leftovers. There’s been a couple videos where he’s straight-up said “this was a freak accident.”

More generally, the fact that the events aren’t likely is part of what can make case studies valuable; i.e. “this sequence of events is highly unlikely to happen again in this specific way, so let’s examine it closely and see what we can learn from it.”

To be clear: there are actually Christians being persecuted or killed for being Christian, just not in the US or anywhere else in the West. The people that Trump and Nicki Minaj are talking about are in Nigeria (and I’m sure Trump would want them deported if they sought asylum in the US, of course). Trump and Nicki both suck but we can at least not make light of religious persecution in other countries, just because Christianity is more dominant here.

I block pretty freely, on all social media. Being both trans and religious means that people on any part of the political spectrum might think I’m subhuman, and I don’t see the point of engaging when that’s the case.

I use SpiralLinux (basically Debian with some tweaks). I like it a lot! If you want to stay in the Debian/*buntu lineage, consider it.
