All I am saying is that if the person you are with drops dead, you should be able to take care of yourself. That’s just sensible.

It’s less about trusting no one and more about recognizing that something could happen to the person you are with, like a medical emergency for example, and that you should be able to survive on your own. Say you are hiking with someone and they fall and break their leg. Do you both just lay there and die? You need to be able to get yourself back to safety and to get help.

When you get on a plane, they do a whole safety announcement, pointing out the exits. Trains and busses have legally mandated labeling for exits. You are well informed how to get out on your own.

I don’t care who you are, you should never go to a place with someone that you are not capable of leaving alone.
My favorite sandwich is a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich with guacamole. I call it a LGBT.

Landlord doesn’t give a fuck about housing costs. Shocking!

Alongside the announcement of Noem’s ouster,
Yay!
the president said he would tap Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., to be her replacement
Boo!

It’s like Trump has to convince everyone he is the antichrist without actually saying it.
Why is it Democrats responsibility to get progressives to vote in primaries? If you don’t vote, politicians don’t care about your opinions.
We are back to the original point that people are so determined to blame Democrats that they sabotage their own efforts to get something better.
People should have been planty enthusiastic to get anyone but Trump as President, but that shows how strong the misinformation machine is.
Personally I’ve always favored a system like Australia where voting is compulsory and punished with a small fine. That filters out the principled from the merely lazy.
I would argue that it is the civic duty of a citizen to vote. Enthusiasm is irrelevant.
I’ve gotten more down votes saying exactly this.
In 2020 Biden won with 81.3 million votes. In 2024 Trump won with 77.3 million votes. All we had to do to avoid the mess we are in is turn out with the same “enthusiasm” we had for Biden in 2020.

Federal courts yes, but state courts not necessarily. Trump’s favorite tactic has been to run out the clock with constant appeals and lawsuits. Now state courts can use that trick against him. Fight everything he does tooth and nail in the state courts where he doesn’t have the judges in his pocket. Sure the Supreme Court will overturn most unfavorable decisions, but that takes time for appeals to get that far.

There’s always a next vote. That must have slipped the minds of 6/9 of the court.

They can open up Cayman Island bank accounts just like the billionaire tax evaders.

Efficiency and resilience are opposing forces. Think of the spare tire on a car. Is it efficient to carry around a fifth wheel all the time? No. But it is resilient because it will make it possible to quickly recover from a disruption (i.e. a flat tire).
The housing system needs a certain degree of resilience or people end up homeless. If that costs landlords money, too damn bad. It’s the job of government to force them.

I’m not necessarily saying rent control is the best response. It’s just that raising property taxes is going to raise rents which is exactly what the city doesn’t need.
Sounds like a great way to fake your death. The only problem is that everyone will think you died driving a Tesla.
