Seattle is a mix of rich folks, tech folks, counterculture folks, and holier-than-thou folks. Sometimes, that’s just one dude.
We hired a IT guy who had a decade of experience with Windows Servers. The dude was not a good fit for our linux-heavy IT team. Didn’t fully know commands or how the OS worked.
He was still a smart dude, and he moved to the AWS team, where there’s a lot more GUI aid.
As a Linux user, I shit on Linux tutorials being obtuse because the solution is often like “then sudo [command]” and now run these 8 other commands. But at least with Linux commands, a smart person can piece together what’s going on.
Windows, it’s even worse. It’s like a bunch of black boxes talking to other black boxes so after you right click to enable that property and add this registry key, you then have to reboot into your bios to turn on “Fuckboi” mode and take photos of your asshole for verification, then log into your Microsoft account to get this Powershell script and now you can finally see your children again.
I’m so exhausted at people who answer like this.
It makes me feel crazy.
Still there for me.
In my old job, the tech department wasn’t who hired engineers, it was Human Resources.
And they would write shit like “Entry level position- needs react, C#, Unity, Kubernetes, Perl, and Assembly expertise. Min 5 years of experience.”
Shit they found online and slapped into a profile.
And it was up to the dept leads to hire people quietly and just have HR sign off on it because they were fucking morons.
I really pissed off a coworker with this line. Complains about 1.5 hour commute because of “all the assholes in rush hour”.
Thats hilarious and accurate to what I’ve been seeing elsewhere. Non-techies jump to windows 11, notice half their custom settings are gone and it’s harder to find their stuff, then get furious and want to get off of windows.
Keep it up Microsoft.
I feel like this is all marketing BS, and just shitting on the garbage that was Concord to gain more eyeballs
And a lot of other situations with review bombing over the past decade.
Like a JRPG, the choice is an illusion.
The real answer is to use a paper towel to open the door.
I’m fond of the paper method. Paper barrier to protect me from the gross handle.
The pi 500 looks amazing and I plan to order!
I was somewhat impressed with the specs of the raspberry pi 4. It was fast enough to run a desktop client for a bit. But it started suffering when I tried to code my regular programs on it. I turned it into a server and called it a day.
Where the raspberry Pi 5 is much beefier. And I was getting rid of my aging chromebook too.
No promises, but the monitor was built for low-powered devices. So it should work in theory.
I bought another portable monitor for $70 and that also worked. But so did a cheap $20 used LCD monitor.
Popeyes is amazing. There’s a dozen in my area. Out of all the national fried chicken chains, easily the best.
KFC is disgusting. Dave’s Hot Chicken? More like Dave’s Hot garbage. Wingstop? Just stop. I’m not eating the chicken sandwich that hates gay people.
If you’re asking what the best fried chicken & fried chicken sandwich, unfortunately my city is extremely spoiled with local joints.
At its price point, it’s very underwhelming.
I also did the math and I could get an average phone (used) every year for three years before I break even. And those average phones would be more powerful with each iteration.
Unless you’re bought into eco-friendly minimal waste messaging, it’s really hard to choose fairphone.
Here’s some BS. My phone’s battery replacement cost $220. ($100 for battery, and $120 to be serviced) That was the same price as buying a refurbished version of the upgrade.
I missed the days of just replacing the battery with a screwdriver.
There was a movie in the 2000s that pointed out how fucked up US healthcare is.
Very little changed.
I absolutely call out inaccuracies like this.
Am I German? 👀
