Vivek Ramaswamy suggested canceling Juneteenth, calling it a “useless” holiday in a conversation with Iowa voters, NBC News reports.Less than two months ago, however, he posted a video on social media celebrating the day.
I agreed with his getting rid of affirmative action, and increasing the voting age, but this one is crazy. What benefit is there to this.
EDIT: I’m already downvoted to hell but please look into his actual proposal, which I touched on below. The vast majority of 18-25 year olds who want to vote would still be able to, just with an extra step.
I’d love to know too, cause I’m actually for lowering it. If there are 15 year Olds working jobs at fast food restaurants or wherever, they should either a) be able to vote, or b) not have income tax taken out. No taxation without representation.
His proposal is raising it to 26 unless you’re 18 or older and
a) have passed a civics test (same one that all immigrants are required to pass for citizenship)
or
b) have served in the military
I really don’t think this is unreasonable. That being said I think the age minimum for military eligibility should be raised as well…in my opinion most people this young are not mature enough to rationally make these big decisions.
We already had unpassable tests used to disenfranchise people for a long time. I wonder if you don’t know about those or just agree with how they were used.
The most ignorant and racist people I know are all over 25, why would you only want it for those under 26?
No matter what political affiliation you have, I would wager that the current mess was not created by 18 year olds voting but older people. So if you want to be ‘fair’ and ‘reasonable’, hoe about we put restrictions on older voters on a sliding and increasingly more difficult scale?
18 - 25 : your good to go
25 - 40 : you need some civics tests
40 - 60 : civic + psycholigical testing
60 - 70 : civics + psychological + dementia testing
70+ : you no longer get to vote as your time has past and consequences are no longer your concern yet can harm upcoming generations
If you want limitations and testing, this is a fair proposal. I guess you would logically have to agree with this, yes?

I’m curious, what do you think the voting age should be raised to and why?
Republicans want to raise voting age because young people are increasingly realizing that Republicans are authoritarian bigots.
*authoritarian bigots who want to destroy the world for a profit. FTFY
Sure. Let’s also prevent people from voting for the last 25 years of their life unless they serve in the military. /s

Even ten years olds know you don’t take babies from their mothers at the boarder. Let them vote.

Why raise the voting age? Are we not paying income tax at 18 anymore?
All 3 are crazy, you just happened to find the one that was too crazy for you.
Less than half of 18-24 year olds even vote* and you want to decrease that further?
