Without seeing the exact layout of these two living units, we can only assume. Balcony can refer to porch (assumes two separate houses). Since OP said “at neighbors house” it can mean a detached house next.

All in all, I think it jd made up lol.

It’s made up. Police aren’t going to search a home on this guy’s word. They need a warrant or clear probable cause of a crime in progress, and even cops don’t give much a shit about weed anymore.

      Or… you could buck up?

Did you know that they make these new-fangled things called “fans”? If the smell of people’s smoke bothers you (BBQ, weed, cigarettes, food, etc.), you use this fancy $20 FAN, point it toward the window, and any smoke is blown away from your home and your sensitive, delicate, noble nose.

Also… most windows have a “close” option, if you can’t afford a fan. You CLOSE the window and smells can’t go through it! It’s like magic.

Solve your own problems instead of trying to force other people around you to submit to your will. Nobody else gives a shit.

Why would ElectricVocalist have to buy a fan and run it just so you can smoke on your balcony?

The responsibility of producing smoke falls on the one who produces it, not everyone else who has to inhale it.

Regarding the post, I of course don’t think calling the cops on someone smoking is remotely OK, and the reaction was deserved.

But as a person with allergies to smoke who lives in a place where summers are really hot and can’t afford to run AC all day, do better. You can just smoke inside and run an air filter, or go take a walk and smoke while you’re moving so you don’t smoke close to any single person for a long time. You also have options, and some of them are free.

“ACCOMMODATE ME” - This fuckin’ guy.

Calling the cops on someone, especially these days, is not the play but holy shit, dude.

Hell, fans are free if you keep your eye out and are willing to clean it up a bit. Just finished a space heater I found in the garbage after the hurricane. Except for the yellowed case back, it looks brand new.

But anyway, here in America we have the god-given right to not be so much as slightly annoyed by another person’s behavior. It’s in the Constitution, I’m sure of it.

Because smoke inside gets in the walls, curtains, carpets, pets, kids, visitors, etc.

      That ain’t kind. Be kind.

Smoking on the balcony can be annoying to the neighbours, but usually it won’t be a dangerous concentration for the neighbours. Just annoying.

Then do neither and instead go outside on a walk where you don’t annoy people for very long.

Counter point: the smoker closes his door, but the neighbor might have their window open. Especially in summer months this can be really annoying having smoking neighbors.

So annoying that… you don’t buy a fan?

What a pickle. Those poor people! If only they knew how to use a fan.

A fan doesn’t cool your apartment or improves the air quality. Maybe you should smoke less, it seems to degrade your brain functions.

A fan moves air. If anything, the energy needed to move it would slightly warm it even (but that can be ignored). How should it improve air quality? It can neither turn CO2 into O2 nor can it get rid of smells nor can it reduce humidity. It moves air around. Nothing more.

Calling the cops for this is such an asshole move though. Cops here would probably just laugh at you on the phone if you called them for that

It’s fake. Cops don’t automatically search a home because a random citizen told them there was weed there. And yes, almost every police force would blow off such a call.

Calling the police on someone for smoking on their own balcony isn’t wrong?

It’s illegal to be within 20-25 feet of all residences and businesses where I live so there’s legal precedent. Also, don’t fucking smoke shit where I can breathe it in thanks.
