I gotta ask though, what did they expect google to do there? It’s not like the sale of that land wasn’t known to the government. And they did make their intentions known about building on the site. Sounds like they failed to file the proper paperwork that would have gotten approved anyway.
And how does no one notice before 250k trees get cut down and the land graded. This wasn’t a few days of work here.
This plays like local politicians green light all this, and once the people found out and weren’t happy, they are trying to divert the anger. And really, there should be enough anger for all involved.
I’m surprised they found people i. Finland with the necessary machines willing to do the work. Clearing hectares of forest is so much different from regular forest work. Even if they cut down thousands of trees daily, this is not how it’s done, and they ought to know.
What’s the point anyway. There’s no good reason to clear such a large area just for one building.
There’s a data center near me, and it’s the same. Large clear area and high security fences just for a small ordinary warehouse sized building. It looks more like a military complex than an industrial facility.
What’s the reason? They want security to be able to guard the place with a gatling gun or something? What do they expect to happen in the future to warrant such design?
I would expect they probably brought in outside contractors to do the work. It’s somewhat specialized work, and there probably aren’t enough locals with the skills.
That said, sounds like a decent zombie apocalypse refuge.
But seriously, if you know that clearing the are is going to ruffle feathers, clear more than you need in the first shot to leave you room to expand later without having to get permission to clear more. Because now people will be watching. It’s a business, not a person. Morals don’t exist. Which is why decision makers at businesses should not be shielded from prosecution and jail time.
