The dutch solved this by colouring the bike lane orange. Yes occasionally we add bollards but the entrances to 2 lanes often end/start in protected intersections
Wouldnt notably high speed bumps be a better solution?
An even better solution than that would be getting rid of cars for everyone who doesnt ACTUALLY need them. Every Dick and Jane has a car nowadays cause some people live in their cars cause renting and housing payments are too expensive (which could be easily solved with universal housing for all peaceful, productive adults in society) , people livee in car centric muniicpalities (which can be essily solved with getting rid of car centric infrastructure and increasing access to public transport) , and some people own certain car brands just to show off (people need to stop giving a fuck if some random rich snob has the latest ferari , maserati, bugatti, or lincoln. Theyre just metal death cubes that move quickly and pollute …there is no honour in owninng one regardless of its branding , its flashiness or its maximum acceleration🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️)

Stick around. You’ll see that paint only works in high trust cultures. Bike lanes are constantly disrespected by drivers most places.
I’m not talking about trust, I mean two enclosed single bicycle lanes that merge at a bicycle crossing before entering an enclosed 2 way bicycle lane.
But didnt the bike lane have a speed bump to deter drives from driving into it? What would some colors do?
When you colour 80% of all bike lanes orange the defence that a driver didn’t know it was a bike lane becomes moot.
