I’m very happy to see this because it proves that Mamdani is serious about Democratic Socialism, and isn’t going to stop with social democratic reforms. Mamdani is demonstrating to other socialists running for office how it’s done; do whatever is in your power as an elected official to help the people build their own labor power.

Do you think that creating an office that uses city resources to provide direct support to labor organizers is just an ordinary social democratic reform? This is a clear collectivization effort, but I guess you don’t approve of anything short of a top-down forced collectivization order via state seizure of private property, which IMO just results in violent backlash and a subsequent surge in state repression that sours people to the idea of socialism (not that the mayor of one city in the imperial core even has the power to do something like that in the first place). It is always better for someone with access to state power to support workers’ grassroots efforts to organize than to take a top-down approach.
No wonder the right hates this guy. Instead of making a fortune under the table, this guy’s doing his job! He’s making everyone else look bad!
The rest of the country really needs to implement Ranked Choice Voting in order to give more people like him a chance.
RCV is a politician’s trap. It isn’t electoral reform, it is ballot reform. It comes in good forms like STV, or bad forms like IRV. And the politicians always want IRV, because that trends even faster than FPTP towards a 2 party system.
You need a system that actually lets you elect a third party, not one that lets you write one on a ballot to no avail.
