I need to point out that in this case most probably will be installed snap/flatpack package (unless you mean some UI for native package manager), which is a sandboxed package and can/will have issues with things like file access.
Well, it’s not like problems are guaranteed, most things just work, except maybe Steam.
I heard there was big investment from Germany into flatpack, I hope it become more polished, it would be great. I do like fully native apps, but I like stability and ease of install better.

I use discover on opensuse tumbleweed. Simple, easy, and I can choose the source from flathub and tumbleweed when both are available.
I did have an issue once but it turned out that it was network related and not my config.

steam just works for me. flatpak has been working better and better over time for me.
it’s getting polished as we speak, slowly but surely.
