I like it. As a decent American I both appreciate freedom of speech and have a sense of humor about myself and my country. I also have great shame for the state of my country.

I doubt it. No need to feel shame.
To me, it’s similar to feeling proud. Feeling pride in country is weird and just leads to nationalism, which is horrible. I never feel shame about shit I literally cannot control or affect.
