As long as we have first-past-the-post voting, they have to work within the Dem party, rather than outside it. Trying to fully split into a 3rd party would split the non-fascist vote and make them both lose.
And I’ll reiterate the issue so many gloss over here: The two party system could still theoretically work. But it doesn’t work right now because more than one human being votes for the Republicans, a hateful entity that destroys everything and helps no one but the rich.
That is a choice, one I’ve never tolerated or understood. Even if America had more options, it wouldn’t cure voters that reject progressive candidates because they’re not hateful enough.
The America First movement is the post-Trump grassroots conservative faction. The party is fighting with them and trying to redirect them to its own aims, but these people know they’ve been lied to before, so it might remain under its own control.
My assessment is that it’s a bit less of a threat to my queer friends than MAGA, and far less destructive on most other fronts, but it isn’t my biggest focus.so I could be missing something.
Social Dems seem to be gaining popularity quickly in the US. Are they splitting from Old Dems, or?
MAGA is also welcome to split from Republicans, too, I’d say (and jump into an active volcano, if they would be so kind).

Yeah, unless we restructure our democracy to support multiple parties, the closest we can get is two parties that contain several distinct caucuses.
Every “Never Trumper” dropped the Never from their title.
