My feeling is if we’re smart we’d probably layer it with some sort of DNS style distributed reputation system… If we’re not (which is what will inevitably happen) we’ll continue to consolidate the entire internet into a few huge walled gardens where information is heavily controlled, but you trade every shred of your privacy, anonymity, and dignity for convenience.
http/https works as well as it ever did, it’s just that the overwhelming quantity of new sites have gummed it up for their own purposes.
