Hey everyone,
As some may be aware our previous icon and banner here from the previous mod team were both AI generated. I personally have a strong dislike for that, as do many of you, so I wanted to replace them immediately.
I have absolutely zero artistic ability. For the time being they’ve been temporarily replaced by some shitty pictures I took this morning but I’d like to get some nice ones to eventually replace them permanently.
If anyone here has any artist ability, or is a good photographer, or just has a nice picture of their latte art or something, and is okay with it being the community icon or banner, comment them below and I’ll choose one for each!
Edit: I have chosen the community icon now, but I’m still looking for a banner. I like the idea I’ve got right now (just a bunch of coffee beans) but would like a better quality photo. If anyone has a nicer picture they’ve taken that they’re okay with being the banner, I’d love to see it! If not, I’ll try to take one myself but I’m not the best at photography.
Edit #2: I’ve replaced the banner with a better picture of beans. I’m going to un-pin this post now, but if anyone does end up reading this in the future and wants to contribute, I’m not against changing the banner or icon again. But I think I’m pretty happy with how it looks now.

It may be cliched, but how about an image of the underneath of a portafilter as a shot’s pulled?
That was actually my initial thought, but I don’t have a naked portafilter at the moment so I can’t take the picture myself, and I don’t know if there’s a rule against using pictures on the internet in case it’s a copyright issue or something. If you have a nice picture of a good shot, I’d love to see it though.
I do have one! Although it’s an old, barely decent phone picture and it’s taken above the naked portafilter, if you like it feel free to use it ;)
(I do have a crappy one from under the portafilter but it’s bad quality and my face is visible in the chrome reflections, something I’m not comfortable with)

That’s a beautiful machine! Seems like a pain to photograph though.
I think that anything from public image repositories, or from somewhere like Pixelfed/Flickr that is put up with a CC license would be OK. I’ve never got a good photo like that, as I use a Flair espresso machine - being manual it’s a bit too involved to be snapping photos mid-pour, I don’t have the dexterity or extra arm necessary!
How do you like a manual espresso maker? I really want to get a Cafelat Robot one of these days if I can find one available (though not anytime soon since I just got my Gaggia, but one day).
I love it. I’ve not used a Robot, but I did a lot of nerding out about the choices before I bought this one, and it really works well. Having the pressure gauge and the long lever allows a good bit of accuracy, and if you get a second basket you can make shots back-to-back pretty fast if you keep the kettle simmering. It’s quite a big bit of kit, but I have a cupboard that it goes in nicely, and looks fantastic through the glass so it doesn’t eat my whole worktop.
It’s definitely more work than a normal machine, but if you want something that does pre-infusion and all that, it’d cost way more than I could afford, so this is a good compromise between price and capability

The existing banner is alright isn’t it? Some coffee beans, nothing wrong with that? Simple and to the point.
Yeah I like that idea (obviously, since I did it) but the picture I took is not exactly the highest quality picture out there. Maybe I’ll try to stage a better picture and see how I like it.
