At the moment your family is “detained” you quite simply do not know what the outcome is going to be. Are they just going to be interviewed, and released in an hour, or are they never going to be seen alive again. A violent confrontation, no matter the outcome, dramatically increases the likelihood of the latter.
Sometimes caring for people means considering their well-being before your own ego.

They have been doing EXACTLY this scenario to all kinds of people who are even remotely “Mexican” for over a year and a half now.
