Dude sounds like he had normal human values, then he got some power as a politician and now he is just living a persona to appease certain people. I still can’t believe he is a Marine.

I am a Marine and even after I retire I will still be a Marine. The Vice President left active duty and they served honorabley, so they are still a Marine. To be called an Ex-Marine is a derogatory comment typically reserved for those that were forced out or basically have been determined can no longer claim the title.

Honest question, why do people who are not active call themselves a marine? Let’s say you’re retired, too old to be in service, would you refer to yourself as being a marine or was once a marine?

It is an earned title, once a Marine, always a Marine. If you made it through boot camp then you’re part of the gun club forever. It isn’t necessarily that hard to get through boot camp, tens of thousands of high school / college age people do it a year. But earning your Eagle, Globe and Anchor is an emotional experience typically followed by a 4 year roller coaster of training, deploying overseas, and losing friends. If a stranger with no context says you don’t rate a title you earned for life it is upsetting to say the least. Cynical people call most of the things Marines do is propaganda.

Thank you for the reply. I understand more than before, but I don’t think I can fully understand because I’ve not been through it. But, same with anything else, I don’t need to understand, just to accept. I’ll do my best to use the correct phasing.
