This was asked today in another community, but still happy to share my favorites in hopes that others will enjoy:
All versions of TodayILearned (@kbin.social,@lemmy.world,@lemmy.ca,@lemmy.ml)
Any my personal (certainly non-biased) favorite
Hey, if you add a ! at the start of those, they will turn into working links for people on version 18.
I’m on Jerboa and when I click it it asks if I want to open it in Gmail or Outlook lol. Still working out kinks!
It’s better than the alternative, atm Jerboa crashes when you try to give it relative links… Open links to communities in is gonna need some updates.
For me (Lemmy version 0.18.0, Jerboa version 0.35), it follows the links, but gets all fucky. The header is correct for the community, but the posts are all from my default homepage (subscribed communities, sorted by hot). And if I click and posts, the app crashes.
Not for us Liftoff savages sadly
Formatted for easy navigation once your instance has upgraded to the current version. Clicking the link should take you to a version of the community linked from your instance. Feel free to comment with any broken links you know the answer to.

Hey so I see there’s a few different instances for TodayILearned, are they all considered unique? Like would it be /TodayILearned1 /TodayILearned2 and so on if they were on Reddit, separate communities? Or are community names unique throughout the fediverse?
They are considered unique communities although they could cover the same topic. It’s a lot like an email address that way, you can have [email protected] and [email protected]. They are unique addresses, but they can have the same name before the at sign.
Something i would like to see in future development is some sort of multi-reddit type feature to combine multiple similar communities into one grouping
Interesting. Well I’m rooting for federated services so we can’t have the rugs pulled out from under us again by large corporations.
General Discussion is the display name, that wont work, actual name is [email protected]
The rest work, but lemmy community names never have capital letters. (Kbin mags can tho)
Appreciate the correction, edited my first post to reflect this :)
I am aware, however the only change i made to @[email protected]’s comment was adding the exclamation point so it’s linkable. I don’t know all the communities they were referring to so I couldn’t apply a fix
I can fix this also… brb!
Another tip, you can use lists to make stuff more compact without so much space between lines.
- like
- this
- or my other comment in this thread
- just add
-
and a space in front of each line - you can of course use preview to make sure it works
Another great tip. When I originally posted each on a single line, they all got mashed together. Will use in future posts.
Two spaces at the end of a line
will prevent that from happening.Blame markdown.
Oh, you got a few I haven’t seen yet. Nice! Thank you.
I like:
- [email protected]
- [email protected] - same but finnish
- [email protected]
- [email protected]

Ones I wish more people posted in:
I like [email protected]. It has a lot of posts with really high quality and there’s lots of discussions happening in the comments.
I wish 😭 I’m so alone
Oof sorry to hear that. I used to be so into dota, but I had to put that part of my life behind me
I like [email protected] people there have good recommandations.
Oh hey cool, it looks like jerboa fixed those kind of links now! I can subscribe to your recommendations!
Lemmy 0.18 was a good update, made communities easier to link, next is posts/comment native linking.
Ah yes some of this is definitely Lemmy rather than jerboa, jerboa just stopped a ctd bug stopping certain links so it became a double whammy of goodness.
Tbh, I felt Jerboa 0.35 was a step back, it no longer applies my profile default sorting on boot.
I hadn’t noticed that, but almost every change I’ve found in it is a huge improvement. Like being able to follow community links without a ctd.
I love that we have [email protected] it’s one of my favorite shows and kinda makes the loss of reddit a bit easier on tv memeing.
I particularly enjoy [email protected]
Communities that I wish were more active:
I’m completely biased, but [email protected] has been very decently active!
Be biased! I’ve already joined and have been getting back into cycling this year
It wouldn’t be a replacement for that other site without:
(those last two have posts with megalists of related communities too, for gamedev and crafts respectively, check them out if you’re interested in either topic)
I really like our little boardgame community over at [email protected]
(Of course I am biased)
You can be biased and promote. I’m already subbed there and have participated. Board games have been so much fun. I need to have people over to play some Wingspan again. And to play some of the Unstable Unicorn games that I haven’t tried yet
Still need to get my hands on wingspan but. I heard good things!
It’s really fun! I love it. You can always try it out on Tabletop Simulator first
[email protected] Join us if you’re a reader!
Just did, thanks for the recommendation!
Just thought I’d add that I’ve found [email protected] to be great and quite active
It’s run by the r/startrek and r/daystrominstitute mods.
Not necessarily a good thing…
These are some that I follow:
Another star trek fan I see. That community is really kicking off out of everything I’ve seen
Ehh, old hold off judgment for now. There are some serious concerns about over moderation. I was banned recently for trying to discuss community standards when after making a post from a clickbaity site. Took out someone else too who agreed with me on a different community
Really? The Star Trek community? I can’t say I’ve seen any of that
Yep! Mods have done a good job burying it. Check the modlog, you’ll be able to see any moderator action an reasoning for communities you are subscribed to (or maybe that your instance federated to, I’m not exactly sure).
I tried to do a level headed take over at [email protected] encompassing my experience. I’m sure it came across as whiny to some people. We’ve all got preconceptions of posts calling out mods for overreach so I understand
It’s the same mods that ran r/startrek. They’re notorious for being ban happy especially if you have anything negative to say about nutrek. They also got other alternative trek subreddits banned for people that didn’t want to deal with their moderation. Of all the things I hope to leave over in Reddit are toxic power mods and r/startrek mods are a prime example.
I wouldn’t put it past them to defederating any other instance that has a trek community negative towards startrek.website.
Nice, I do like retro gaming and trek!

It’s not super active yet, but it’s growing. Mainly I just like having a place to drop interesting video essays.
Thanks. Yeah I went, joined, and posted a video. That place should really be filled with more of Technology Connections
For the lazy
Adding an exclamation point at the beginning like that makes it friendly for remote instances. Anyone can click and subscribe no matter if they’re on lemmy.world or not!
ty. Appreciated.
[email protected] is a favorite
Try adding an exclamation mark at the beginning to make it linkable like you could /r/subreddit
Yours has the exclamation mark but actually isn’t clickable here on jerboa. Weird cause some links are clickable and others aren’t
It might be something Jerboa still needs to implement. From what I understand, this was part of the new update to Lemmy. Only servers that have updated have this feature, not all have because they had to temporarily remove captcha. I don’t know if it’s something to do with jerboa, or the instance you’re on but it will eventually become clickable as servers update.
