Meta’s former head of global affairs says executives pivoted right in some cases for ‘rather more self-interested’ reasons

Nick Clegg was Deputy Prime Minister of the UK between 2010 and 2015. He then worked for Meta between 2018 and 2025, in a high-ranking position.

Of course it’s obvious that Silicon Valley has become more friendly with MAGA. An example was when Tim Cook gifted a gold trophy to Trump.

I think it’s interesting to hear this perspective from someone who worked high up at Meta, though.

    He did, but he left Meta last year. From the article:

    Clegg, who spent nearly seven years at Meta as the head of global affairs, told The Rest is Money podcast that it felt like “a very good time for me to move on” when he left the company in March 2025, three months into the second Trump administration.

    But yeah he still took their money for a long time.
