I don’t think it’s pointlessly gendered at all (but it’s definitely a stub of an article that should be much longer). That men are more likely to derive meaning from their job is 100% true, as is the fact that male-dominated industries have borne the brunt of recent layoffs, and those most affected are less likely to have the skills to adapt. All of this together absolutely puts a subset of men at higher risk of mental health issues, which makes them more vulnerable to getting caught up in fictions like those offered by AI
