Yes and no. It was actually designed to keep trump like people out but that got thrown out the window cause it’s just there to help republicans land win.

I’ve seen pretty compelling arguments in the past that a big incentive for the electoral college is race and class (shocker, I know).
A quick Google search has a lot of discussion on the matter.
But either way, no one at the time of writing could predict the level of connectedness of modern life, nor how entire industries are dominated by people trying to sway public opinion.
