The direct answer is “no.” However, it is nonetheless going to stick with us. I find it hard to think that writers get satisfaction out of delegation instead of, you know, writing.
Sure, if we’re talking about writing for it’s own sake. Most of what people use AI for is, like, emails and advertising copy. Maybe porn. Book reviews and newsletters, per this article. It’s all writing that’s secondary to some other purpose.
I write mostly because it helps me organize my own thoughts. Granted, professional writing shouldn’t be that, but … well, what’s a column if not that?
Wired’s Maxwell Zeff wrote about a number of journalists using A.I. to assist their writing, including the Times columnist Kevin Roose… who [created instructions] to help Claude write in his style, including the “10 commandments” of writing like Alex Heath.
Can’t believe anybody takes Kevin seriously. Not here, sure, but there are some in the tech sphere who loves that he says what they already believe.
