Well, look at Vichy France and their eventual liberation from Nazi Germany and De Gaulle and the ultimate transition to the 5th republic. Not a “military coup” per se, but still a period in France where strong military-oriented leadership

Sure, it’s not often that military leadership ends up peacefully transitioning to civilian leadership… but given how our civilian leadership is the problem right now, I’m willing to give it a shot, because it could hardly be less sane that the idiocy that’s happening now. There exists some subset of career military officers and leadership to whom honor and loyalty and integrity actually matter; the same cannot be said for anyone in the regime currently, since their North Star is making a buck and “winning”.

On the other hand, most democracies come from military coups. All the recent coups leading to authoritarianism come from the CIA or Kremlin or Islamism. After the cold war more coups led to democracy afain. If the US has an internal coup now it’ll be more likely one of those, I’d think.

I agree I don’t want the coup but maybe if ICE pisses off the military enough, they won’t coup a Democrat if they ever get voted back in
