Actually, sounds logical: removing neighbors will leave you alone. The only problem is that the whole neighborhood is against it.

Fuck twitter putting replies on top. That isn’t how anyone reads, jerk.
It’s a quote tweet, not a reply. Similar to posting a link or screenshot.
You have to read the second part first in order to get context for the first part. It just sucks.
And also I don’t really care. You don’t need to defend twitter. Fuck that nazi site.
Fuck Twitter. No one should be reading it anyhow.
Yet so much of Lemmy is xitty reposts
It’s literally why I never used it even before Musk got hold of it.
I just found using it incredibly unintuitive and annoying to navigate.

LEAVE US ALONE!

Egypt should send a bill to the Israeli government. A bill for the economic value of all the Israeli slaves Yahweh broke out of Egypt in the Torah. And a bill for all the property they stole.
Consult a team of historians and archaeologists. Ask them to calculate the mean value of a slave in say, 1000 BC Egypt. And then find an equivalent currency figure today. Multiply that number times the entire present Israeli population. And then send them a bill for that amount.
What? The Israelis are all about ancient mythical property claims. If modern Israelis can seize land based on the words in the Torah, then modern Egyptians can demand that they be compensated for the economic value of all the slaves Yahweh stole from them. As far as the legal structure that existed in the Egypt of the Book of Exodus, modern day Israel is just one big runaway slave colony. If we can start enforcing ancient and mythical land claims, then why can’t Egypt start enforcing their mythical property rights, citing the exact same book?
Where in the Talmud does it say that God taking the ancient Israelites out of Egypt was anything other than divine-assisted theft of property? Did God ever explicitly nullify any ownership stake in those slaves? If not, then it could be argued that those claims still exist! Oh, and don’t forget all the actual stolen property. You’re talking about a nation’s-worth of people planning to take a vast trek across a desert. Sure, they got some help with springs and manna. But they were originally planning for a reasonable journey, not 40 years of wandering the desert! They left with supplies; a large quantity of them. Wagons full of things. Who do you think those goods legally belonged to? For God’s sake, they had enough gold amongst them to create a giant golden calf! The Israeli caravan was a wandering carnival of stolen property and mass thievery! They probably picked their master’s houses clean and raided the countryside as they went. A bunch of pirates shielded by divine plot armor.
I mean, think about it. How would you expect people to act in such a situation? These slaves aren’t quietly sneaking out in the night, carrying just a small bindle of supplies. They’re leaving houses of former owners, former owners that are now in fear for their lives. They just watched literally ever male first-born person they know drop dead overnight. And that’s after surviving the other plagues. Hell, most of Yahweh’s victims don’t even own any slaves. Innocent victims who had do die, simply because Yahweh didn’t just want to keep bursting Pharaohs until one let His people go. Could have done the same thing with a series of lightning strikes, but no! This was clearly a people in service to some dark and powerful demon. No just god would act with such barbarity!
Anyway, think of how people would actually react. These are former slaves, who’ve been treated with absolute cruelty their whole lives. And now they are free via literal divine intervention. They are untouchable. Literally. No Egyptian would want to even lay a finger on them, fearing for their own lives.
What would stop them from completely looting the houses of their former masters? Nothing! Hell, a lot of former masters probably got lynched. I mean, fuck slave owners in any era. But at the very least the houses of anyone with means would have been completely ransacked. The temples would have been looted. The communal grain stores emptied. They would have grabbed anything of value or use that wasn’t bolted down (and many things that were.) If you give real human beings literal divine protection, and those people were slaves just five minutes ago? Yeah, there’s going to be a national looting.
Why do you think Pharaoh went after them after they left? You think it was just because he was prideful, like the Israeli propaganda suggests? No! It’s because the Israelites carted off so much of the community food stores, that his people were facing a certain famine! Plus they now lost all the gold reserves they need to keep their trade and basic economy functioning. Pharaoh wasn’t trying to recapture the Israelites, he just wanted them to return some of the stolen property! The Israelites had taken so much that the very foundations of the Egyptian economy were collapsing.
At least, that’s the case that would be made. And note, the people of Egypt, to this day, have never been compensated for the looting of their ancestral homes. Think of how wealthy Egypt would be today if they hadn’t had all their national wealth looted by a bunch of divinely-sponsored pirates back in Biblical times? If we’re enforcing ridiculous ancient property claims, then by God, the modern Israelis owe the Egyptians for all the stuff they stole from their ancestors!
The value of these goods should be estimated, scaled to modern economic terms, and submitted as a bill to the Knesset.
Maybe after that we can find some obscure religious sect that claims direct descent from one of the mythical “12 lots tribes of Israel.” Then organize a new settlement effort within Israeli territory, helping these folks retake their homeland. And we’ll hand them a few nukes, just so the Israelis can’t instantly squash them.
