I just completed Voyager: Across the Unknown and I have to say that it was pretty bad.

The concept for the game is really cool, but it is pretty unfinished.

The UI is a big confusing and not at all consistent.

The tech tree is also a bit strange. I finished the game way over powered and I did not even focus on upgrading my combat abilities. There were also things on the tech tree that did not make any sense like improve your trading skills.

What is the point of trading, when you can just fly to any planet and get whatever you want?

I get the impression that this game was initially designed as a pay to win grindy mobile game and last minute they switched it to be a PC title.

When I go to a system, I scan all the planets first. Then, my team got captured on an away mission and the only way to save them was to scan different class planets. Well, I could not do that since I already scanned them.

It is really unbalanced and quickly becomes repetitive. There isn’t even a way to save the game. It auto saves kind of randomly.

Overall, I give this a 3/10. If it was patched a lot and rebalanced, it could have been a good game.

At the very least, it was nice to revisit the voyager story in a concise kind of way.

I agree that trading seems largely pointless. I ended up extremely overpowered in combat when I played on the lowest difficulty. The middle difficulty seems a bit more sensible so far, but I haven’t finished my run yet. Been enjoying the game overall though. Can’t say I ever ran into the need to scan planets as a result of an away mission.

They added manual saving in an update a few days ago.

It’s great that they finally added that. I guess I don’t get it as I just put my steamdeck into sleep mode between sessions to not lose progress.

Hopefully they revamp the game with a 2.0 patch.

Welp, I was gonna comment this just about word for word but ya beat me to it. I did find a few instances where trading was actually useful and I suspect it’s even more useful at the harder difficulties. For the scanning of planets for an away mission…I don’t remember it being for an away mission but I do remember needing to scan planets and like…OP must be blind or something because the planets that needed to be scanned weren’t scannable before as part of finding resources.

I’d qualify your issue with the away mission as a bug, is there a way to report those for the benefit of everyone?
