Domestic 155-mm Bohdana artillery systems account for 40% of all artillery used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the frontline.

This was reported by Colonel Andriy Zhuravlyov, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Rocket Forces and Artillery of the Ukraine’s Land Forces Command, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, this figure was recorded as of October 2025. This applies to both self-propelled and trailed versions of the Ukrainian artillery system.

These are ridiculous numbers for such an incredibly powerful tube artillery weapons system developed during wartime in such a short window of time, the impact of these numbers is strategic because not only do ordinary dumb artillery shells fired out of an 155mm artillery system obliterate anything they near hit including and up to main battle tanks, the high pressure 155mm artillery system is rapidly developing into a long range precision guided glide-munition delivery platform. Russia has to rely on its fighter-bombers and bombers for an equivalent capability, which would you rather have to try to hide from an enemy, a normal looking heavy truck or a fighter jet? Remember you also have to produce a huge number of credible decoys to disguise the movements of your actual asset being used here.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) announced the successful test of its Long Range Maneuvering Projectile (LRMP) at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground, achieving key flight milestones when fired from a M777 howitzer platform. During the August test, GA-EMS fired multiple LRMP rounds using M231 powder charges, demonstrating sabot separation, de-spin stabilization, wing deployment and controlled descent.

The LRMP is a next-generation munition engineered to extend the range and precision of existing 155mm artillery systems. Equipped with deployable aerodynamic control surfaces and onboard guidance, it can actively maneuver in flight to engage targets at extended distances—even in GPS-denied or degraded environments. Recent test flights matched predictive models and yielded valuable data to support upcoming demonstrations at significantly increased ranges.

Ukraine demonstrating such a depth of production capacity for an extremely long range precision guided munitions platform that can drown Russian rocket artillery in pure volume of sustained fire over time and production capacity of delivery systems is intimidating as hell in the best way possible to the Russian military/general public that seem convinced they are automatically going to win against Ukraine the longer the war of attrition drags on.

He also stresses that today, the Ukrainian Bohdana is already approaching the French CAESAR in terms of its characteristics.

However, while CAESAR was developed over a period of about seven years and underwent various tests in different climatic conditions, at the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022, our Bohdana was only in the initial stages of development.

^ the 40% number for artillery systems isn’t really the headline, the comment about the performance of the bohdana is but whatever…

Edit 2

It is worth noting that Germany is supplying Ukraine with a huge amount of Zetros military trucks which sets up Ukraine for a potential burst of Bohdana 155mm artillery system production that Russia is simply not going to be able to counter effectively.

In 2026, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are set to receive 200 units of Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems mounted on the new Zetros chassis. Of Germany’s total €1.2 billion assistance package, €750 million will be allocated to this largest artillery project.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine highlights the key features of the Zetros chassis.

Mercedes-Benz Zetros is a versatile chassis designed by the German manufacturer for operation in harsh conditions, including off-road environments. The chassis supports a wide range of military applications, including cargo trucks, transporters, fuel tankers, tractor units, and platforms for specialized equipment or armaments.

Do they have enough shells to use them? Limited supply of shells has long been a talking point.
