MGMT sued the DHS for using their song Little Dark Age in their propaganda, interesting there’s no stories about that.

Edit for context: The DHS Instagram account used their song in a propaganda video for ICE. MGMT nearly immediately publicly responded, and actually successfully got the video taken down. They then sued.

And you can’t make this shit up, those running the account are either sociopaths with a dark sense of humor or utterly clueless, because a) The song is called Little Dark Age, written during and about Hitler-lite’s first term, and they titled their video “The End of a Dark Age” and b) the section of the song they used goes: “Policemen swear to God, love seeping from their guns. I know my friends and would probably turn and run. If you get out of bed, come find us heading For the bridge, bring a stone, all the rage, my little dark age” and they are playing that over footage of masked, armed agents forcibly kidnapping citizens. And it’s to make the agents and agency look good? It’s fucking lunacy. How is that anything but a call to other psychos out there that if they sign up they get to kill hippies and wetbacks? Damn, I got too mad, I’m out.

Sounds to me like it’s on purpose, like it’s meant to intimidate and co-opting the artistic rebellion to taunt and take away hope. Reveling in the cruelty is also a draw for the US gestapo.

Or they’re just stupid. Or both.

So good on MGMT taking it back and saying “fuck you” to these weenie keyboard snowflakes.

The publisher apparently refused to comment on a possible lawsuit so it seems like they might be preparing to

Yeah, first rule of a lawsuit, don’t fucking talk to anybody. Don’t give the defense anything to defend with.

There is a long list of performers and artists who have objected to the Trump administration using their songs and copyright material, including ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Phil Collins, Pharrell, John Fogerty, Semisonic, Neil Young, Eddy Grant, Panic! at the Disco, R.E.M., Guns N’ Roses, Celine Dion, Beyoncé and Adele.

Tom Petty’s estate was also suing iirc

Oh yeah she’s totally maga. The man who made her politically active against the advice of all her advisors and parents because of how evil she thought he was totally has her support now. Only possible outcome of this.

Taylor Swift is effectively a business that rightly believed Trump would be against it’s interest, but all businesses know to bow to the king.
