Yes, the economics around moving have changed a ton in the last 40 years, and people are moving a lot less as a result than they did in prior generations.

Obviously everyone’s situation is different so it may not be possible for you, but if you are able to work, focusing on looking for remote/wfh jobs that can go with you in a move can be the difference in being able to move for many since the days of “oh I’ll just move and look for a job when I get there” is really only for people who have lots of support and probably connections where they’re moving. “Remote” isn’t just for software engineers, there are many kinds of customer support, administrative and other roles that don’t require specialized training that you could consider. They may not be your dream job but if it gets you out of a lifelong sentence to live in the same spot it might be something to look at if you already haven’t. It also can be hard to land any job so acknowledge that.

I’m aware, unfortunately I’m so rural that my Internet connection is satellite and not reliable nor fast enough for WFH jobs. I also don’t have a PC or place to perform a WFH position.

The Internet would be a problem. Depending on your cellphone plan, if you have the ability to tether with unlimited data, that could be your home internet. I would not try to work like that if you don’t have good 5g coverage and unlimited tethering.

For the computer, companies, if they’re legit, would provide you a computer to do the work they need you to, assuming it’s a regular w-2 job. Only contractor/1099 jobs are where you have to provide your own equipment/materials for the job. Obviously you’d have to figure out a way to land a job in the first place via the internet, your local library would have Internet access I’d hope.

Hope you can get something to happen for you.
