FEMA records show Kerr County officials did not use FEMA’s system to send warnings to phones in the critical hours as the flooding began on July 4.

FEMA records obtained by NBC 5 Investigates show that Kerr County officials did not use FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System to send warnings with safety instructions to all mobile phones in the affected area during critical hours as the flooding began on July 4.

Researchers who have studied the cell phone warning system told NBC 5 Investigates that policies on how and when to issue critical alerts vary widely from one county to another, potentially risking delays when seconds count.

As the search for the missing continues in Kerr County, records reviewed by NBC 5 Investigates raise new questions about whether local officials could have used the nation’s wireless emergency alert system to better warn people in the flood’s path.

If a completely voluntary political fuckup of mine lead to the deaths of dozens of children, I’d either be driven insane or off a ledge. Wonder how they’ll cope, or if they’d even need to.

In my experience with people from the small religious towns near my city, they’re shocking shockingly good at compartmentalizing pain and waving away responsibility with explanations such as “God’s plan” or platitudes like “God never gives us more than we can carry.”

'Round these parts of Texas, people will tell you that if you feel like you’re carrying too heavy an emotional or spiritual load, it’s because you haven’t noticed that Jesus is carrying it with you. You just need to lean on God (aka beg from your community). But if an unhoused person should ever repeat something like this, they’ll lash out for being godless and lazy.

Most of them will get past this just fine: their conscience is God’s problem.

“I’m mad because, you know, like I told another lady, how many lives do we have to lose in order for them to fix the system? It’s broken,” said Leslie Kocurek.

Stop breaking the law voting republican, asshole!
