I actually do occasionally play dumb on purpose, especially at work if I get an annoying customer. People tend to be less angry and more sympathetic if they think you’re a complete idiot stumbling through life.

I would say that some people under-perform because they’re being exploited. Being vulnerable is not ameliorated by productivity, but most of us recognize that this post is not accurate… right?
