Active duty and veterans have very different pay, and benefits. Veteran pay/benefits is largely centered on how bad their disability is, while active military pay can depend on the number of years you’ve served and level of rank you’ve achieved. An e7 veteran with 50% disability rating will earn less than an e3 with 100% rating.
