They’re currently removing books containing references to slavery from public schools.

I presume the next logical step would be to ask the same of US law enforcement, judicial systems, financial institutions, etc?

    Cue the cricket sounds…

What about gender? Or do they still want to discriminate in men’s favour?

This is a weird comment seeing as women outnumber men in university considerably.

Yes, that’s why universities make it easier for male applicants to get in. If there wasn’t a disparity it would be weird of them to do that.

There’s going to be so much to repair and replace when this is over. It’s just February and I’m already exhausted.

Exhausted from what? All I see is people terminally online defaulting to “ohdearism” and not organizing for the actually exhausting work that is going to inevitably arrive at your doorstep sooner or later.

I see some people pushing for some action, but not enough. They’ve got everyone right where they want them: passive and easy to roll over.

Yup. People say “protest” when what they need is deep labor organization efforts to allow us to shut down important industries as leverage

Labour movements also need people in the streets. Movements fail when they don’t embrace diversity of tactics.

Personally, I downvoted because lately I’ve been devoting almost all of my energy toward trying to develop software we can use to build a true democracy. That’s how I keep myself sane and believe I’m contributing to solutions. Others have their own ways.

And while I’m waiting for scripts to run, I do make the occasional political comment in places like this. But that’s a separate thing just to connect with people and unwind. I can’t speak for the others, but I was downvoting the assumption that just because someone shows outrage at an outrageous situation, that necessarily means they’re doing nothing to try to fix it. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

People used to rage about the content of television being ideological.

Now we know that its ideological nature is mostly structural, not presentation: you, sitting, watching, passive, and most definitely not marching in the streets!

          Generate action, not alpha waves.
