  • Bud, it isn’t an assumption when the action is both reliant on liberal beliefs, and the individuals openly express liberal values.

Also, you don’t get to pick that moral value for other people. As much as I believe we are obligated to exercise whatever power we are afforded, which includes a vote, I could never in good conscience tell someone they’re a problem for refusing to participate in a system that has committed genocide against their people. Colonizers don’t just colonize by explicitly and intentionally dominating other groups, they often do so by asserting that their “moral” philosophy is in everyone’s best interest, even if that means the “unfortunate” reality that necessitates them deciding for others.

The narrative you just created requires us to forget that vulnerable people have revolted against the US state for centuries. You’re saying that their resistance only counts as something to put faith in when the privileged white people join in, and conveniently, that means we should just do what the privileged white people wany out of practicality. This is not the mindset of a reasonable, empathetic person, it is of someone whose politics are oriented around their own comfort; many of us do not enjoy that privilege.

If the sole survivor of a Palestinian family does not want to vote, who the fuck are you or I to tell them they’re immoral if they don’t want to help their family’s murderers do anything for some fake “greater good.” For fuck’s sake, you’d refuse them even that? Why should you have any right to tell a closeted trans person who’s skirting through genocide that they aren’t allowed to maintain some feeling of power or self-authorship by refusing this system their participation? What, them giving away their less than one percent of the vote gonna make all the privileged people listen to trans people for the first time fucking ever?

These are people who have lost and given more than what we could ask of anyone simply by being victimized by this system, and they do not represent dominant voting trends even in the minority groups they represent. You want them to vote for your benefit, don’t act like it is anything else. This discourse didn’t become prominent in liberal discourses until they wanted to blame victims for not supporting the “good guys,” and it’s disgusting. If you’re going to act like this is from whatever, socialist and/or anarchist voters, I’d love to see either stats that proves some sleeping giant lives among us, or an argument that targets them specifically without presuming to speak on the moral purity of victims.

Fuck off with this fake shit.

I don’t know why both of you seem to think that is something gamechanging. You’d think that, if you realized something was being used excessively to cut out labour, that having to use more labour would make whatever that memory was being used to do more expensive, because now there’s increased memory cost and more labour for optimization.

    Object permanence.

I love that other elements of inflation are present in that exact section you quoted, and you still just assumed I was too dumb to know that memory isn’t the most important thing in the world, even though you clearly haven’t spent enough time learning about this yourself.

No, it isn’t just memory, but, like oil, computer components are a fundamental element of our capitalist economy, which means it effects the entire system, not just your rgb gamur hardware. Read the rest of the comment.

  • Are able* to risk. As much as I hate settlers and privilege, there is a reality to the precarity they exist in. It is partially manufactured by the state to incentivize their compliance and punish dissidence, but this is still a brutally genocidal culture where failure to uphold employment and keep up with the constantly increasing cost of living is met with violence either through the police or shelter/food insecurity.

Most people here genuinely cannot risk fighting the state without subjecting dependents to violence. There is a will element certainly, in that you can always (unfairly) claim that we are all obligated to pay that price, but I can’t imagine you could actually let your elderly loved ones or children experience poverty for the chance to be part of a movement that would require the rest of the people here to also subject their dependents to that violence.

They’re using the vulnerable as a shield, as they always do, and they understand that to resist would be to commit violence against our most vulnerable members of society. These people (Canadians), want me dead for something as petty as culture war excitement or their meager excess property rights, there’s no way I could realistically put my child at risk out of trust for them to do the same.

This isn’t to say resistance is impossible or pointless, but to point out that there is a reason the people who resist are often younger without dependents, and why this system has made it increasingly difficult to live alone without relying on others.

🫩 bud, if the memory is more expensive, elements throughout a computer reliant economy becomes more expensive. Have you thought the insane inflation of prices on everything over the past two years is just for fun? Just because of the oil?

The services and products I was referring to as far as computation goes is regarding anything tech related. They’re not going to decrease the price of devices or software anywhere because this represents a fundamental increase in production cost that also leads to other costs through the labour to actually make shit work on what consumers can afford. The profit margins were already reliant on exploitative labour and resource extraction practices, and it is required to continue to increase by any means necessary.

We live in a capitalist system, no not the one you learned about on Twitter or in highschool, but the real one where progressive, infinite growth is necessary for the system to function, and neoliberal politics has very effectively secured state funding for corporate interests over the past five decades. You’re in Canada? Mark Carney’s markedly neoliberal response to the '08 crisis (axeing prime and encouraging spending) is why we had a housing “bubble” for over a fucking decade with a decline in market value being met not with a “pop,” but with subsidies by the state that secures even more property for private capital.

You are thinking things work they way they don’t because you haven’t effectively challenged your understanding of what this system is at a fundamental level. There is no capitalist world where a “pop,” happens and your wealth doesn’t get extracted to recover that loss for capitalists.

  • Yeah, that’s ideal, the reason we put computers in fridges is the data collection is part of the value thar offsets a lower cost for the fridge as worker wages have stagnated for fifty years despite increased consumption and cost of living.

It isn’t just that people are dumber than you, there’s a reason these things happen.

Yes…and the prices of those things will definitely not go down when anything crucial becomes more expensive. They’re not going to lower prices just because software has to be better optimized now, because guess what’s gonna cost more in labour now too.

You’re still thinking it’s about gaming. Yes, the fact that these few companies own this supply is not economically sustainable, when was the last time they let a bubble actually pop without funneling state wealth into keeping it going? These financialization models are too convoluted, almost like this has been going on for a long fucking while; which means we should not assume we can guess when it will “pop.”

  • I don’t know what you would have read in my comment that suggested that we don’t have “power,” and I think that your response was to say “yes, but people here use their efforts to the benefit of some workers here,” shows that you don’t really understand the comment I left (or didn’t read it and just want to say something righteous).

That’s fine that labour movements happen in the metropole, and I’ll remind you that they used to be far more prominent than they currently are, but that they happen doesn’t demonstrate solidarity even among workers throughout the metropole, let alone a willingness among those workers to sacrifice their material security to the benefit of colonized peoples in the global south. Again, so long as you don’t recognize that this is what the objective has to be in order to challenge this system, a slight raise for vulnerable workers here will amount to a snooze button.

  • Yeah, but it isn’t enough to know something is wrong, you should consider why people aren’t rioting (more), and whether it is too reductive to assume it is a select few individuals and not a system that empowers them (even if they have disproportionate power over that system).

Most people are working dude, and many of them have to work out of responsibility for dependents. Ending this system also doesn’t just mean taking the billionaires’ yachts away, it means ending cheap electronics or coffee for the Global North, it means that clothes and time become more materially expensive for the benefactors in the metropole, which includes you. You and the people around you are effected by climate change and ecological destruction, but your immediate material interests are more aligned with maintaining this system than it is ending it, and you guys behave as such whether you realize it or not.

People riot in colonized spaces all the time, but if they aren’t stopped by the colonial puppet states who occupy them, they’re stopped by the imperialist militaries that you pay into whether through taxes, your state’s federal investment portfolios, or the wealth that is directly extracted from your labour into the hands of capitalists. There is a reason that people in the metropole only started giving a shit after it effected them, it’s hard to risk your own security for something that you can only rationally understand is real, and if we’re being honest, the way of life in the metropole makes many of these people too exhausted or petulant to put much effort into that.

It would be incredible if all we needed was some white guys in the metropole to kill a few naughty bois to end all of this, but there’s a reason that this hasn’t happened even if it would work. Liberals in the metropole have a hard time knowing what to do about any of this because they don’t want to recognize how they materially benefit from this violence, or grapple with the commitment to risk their security once they do.

edit: well, there we go, lol.
