I’m just one random nerdy trans girl. …Oh come on, you’ve been around fediverse, surely you’ve seen us around?

Well I’m glad Google decided to bite the bullet and face the immense, Biblical backlash. So that Mozilla Corporation has a few new thoughts to ponder on.
There’s that old legend about the Symbolics Lisp Machine keyboards which had, like, a bazillion modifiers (and were a big influence on Emacs). Someone suggested that they would eventually run out space to put in more shift keys, so they’d have to introduce pedals. I suppose organ stops would also work.

I just wanted a small nook of the web where I could find art reference pictures and create a huge folder of cutest turtle pictures. It’s getting gradually harder with all the slop, yes!

Entirely hypothetical conversation:
Musk: “We really, really want to buy the xVideo domain. We have the money. We really need to do this.”
xVideo rep: “Uh, right. But why, though?”
Musk: “We really care about the branding. It’s a powerful thing.”

Well, now that Trump is a demented dictator of a backwater country, he also needs to update the aesthetics to match. Putting gold everywhere while the impoverished populace is getting whacked by police just makes sense, you know? A time-honoured tradition.
Obligatory comment from someone on the [email protected] crowd:
How cars fly on planes? WELL THEY USUALLY DON’T. We just make shitloads of infrastructure for them. BCUZ OF FREEDUMZ

…Is math related to science?
If the universe is so big, then why doesn’t it fight me?
(Yeah, I know, I shouldn’t be quoting Internet Historian, these could be stolen jokes. It’s funny because these are the sort of jokes I could come up with)
You can register on a Piefed instance and use Lemmy’s subscription export feature and Piefed’s import feature to retain your subscriptions. Porting comments/posts isn’t a thing.
There’s work underway creating migration scripts for Lemmy databases to be imported to Piefed, but that is a tool for instance administrators only, of course.

Well, the .ml folks are often espousing authoritarian points of view and I fail to see how that will bring forth a more positive society. I think authoritarian societies have been problematic in the past. But that is just my opinion.
But there are a lot of societal issues that need to be improved for good though!
…but those aren’t even words. He… he’s not even attempting to… produce words…
This is such a stupid timeline.

Random Republican, transported through time from 15 years ago: “No no no no no! You see, gerrymandering has everything to do with census data. It’s completely impartial! There’s no way the process will fail us.”
[Gets shown the footage]
Random Time-Displaced Republican: “Excuse me, but… Who the hell is in the power right now?”
[More footage]
RTDR: “Ohhhhh shit I HAVE TO GO BACK TO MY TIME!!! …What do you mean you can only time travel forward in time?”
Me, upon installing Debian KDE distro, and having Dragon Player pop up: I ALREADY INSTALLED VLC, WHAT THE HELL DUDES
Like 80% of the games I already play are random indie stuff. I buy maybe 1-2 new big studio games a year, and even those aren’t exactly AAA. Right now, feels like big studios aren’t trying hard to produce actually interesting games, just more franchise slop.
Steam machine got a solid “Oooooooo! Can’t afford one right now but I’m sure keeping an eye on this one!” out of me.

Boeing CEO: “We’re always innovating, and sometimes we need to boldly embrace the wisdom of the past if it can be re-examined in light of current technology. From now on, our airplane navigation systems will be based on the Flat Earth model. This makes navigation so much more computationally efficient, guys.”

For 99% of computer users, if the GUI doesn’t have an option, it doesn’t exist.
Literally 99% of Windows tech support is
Have you right clicked on Windows menu, selected
Terminal (Admin), then enteredsfc /scannowand thenDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealthandDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealthandDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth? …ohhh shit you’re still fucked up - well, maybe you need to completely reinstall windows, well, here’s the page on how to do it.
That’s the difference with Linux. Your average user never uses terminal, and when they do, they find the tools suck.

Well, the commands that I presented (sudo, mount, umount, ps, kill, even lsof) are actually just normal commands that you use to do ordinary things on your system to manage account elevation, mounted disk volumes, processes, and running processes. You need to “memorise” them just as much as you need to memorise their counterparts in a Windows system (Run As/Explorer/Explorer Eject/taskmgr) (…what kind of nerd memorises Ctrl+Alt+Esc anyway?).
…except you don’t have lsof, you literally need to install SysInternals Process Explorer.

I’ve used Process Explorer.
“What file handles are open that match <This drive letter and then some>?”
“Well there’s Dropbox now.”
“Oh. Again?”
“Dropbox, I think.”
“Again.”
“Maybe nothing???”
“OK, let’s try ejecting now.” (It fails again.) “Are you sure no file handles are using this drive?”
“I’m positive.”
“Well fuck this then.” (Unplug USB)
Now. I said I’ve used Process Explorer. I didn’t say I’ve used Process Explorer. I wish to be, one day, one of those frightening people who live and breath Process Explorer every day. There’s still a long journey to get there, I know.
…dunno how this works in other parts of the world, but here in Europe they’d try you as a minor and seal the evidence - which they’d do whether you’d be naked in security footage or not. It just doesn’t matter, they’d examine the evidence as a part of the proceedings nonetheless!
