  • Ah we are on the same page I’m just slow.

My argument I was shoehorning into the conversation is guns are arguably safer even though the outcome is much more fatal and visceral.

We need more laws on guns in the states which unfortunately most people are against. But despite that there are more laws on regulating the saftey of guns and holding people accountable for their actions, than there is on ai

And in the usa trump insists on making it essentially illegal for the individual States to regulate Ai in any shape or form. At the same time Ai is getting forced down every sector including public schooling, all because of the oligarchy who needs all the world’s resources not just most of it. So increasingly you can’t just “not use it” which is a true statement I can at least make with guns.

  • You could make the argument that guns have more responsibilities tied to them.

If you where to leave a loaded gun out on the table, and someone where to steal it off your table you would also be held liable for the crime because it wasn’t locked away in a gun safe unloaded.

LLMs are the equivalent of handing out a loaded gun to everyone for free, even if they adamantly don’t want one. People like Sam Altmann and elon musk who keep pushing for this garbage to be your therapist and the only way to interact with life should face serious consequences like life in prison, and the companies they run should get a fine that’s impossibly large to pay off just like how infowars got a 500billion dollar fine. Info wars and chatgpt are pretty much the same product.

  • When I’m at someone’s house and the YouTube video kicks into 4k 60fps its noticeable.

Its almost too distracting when you’re not used to it. When its gone I miss it for a day or two but ultimately wasn’t the reason I enjoyed it.

I’ll watch YouTube on my phone at 480p because I pretty much grew up on metered internet and it just feels wasteful. But I’m the type of guy to play at 1080p mid settings (uncapped distance and frames if possible tho) to give my PC a easy time. Even if have the media installed locally I’m going 720p tops because now storage is more important.

The only time I’ll fully let myself enjoy high res high quality media is if its a physical form like a blue ray. Other than that in the back of my mind I’m always thinking about how ray tracing and crazy high rez is kind of a gimmick, and how I would rather have more frames or conserve my hardware.

  • I think I remember one of the rabbit hole on went down was that one of the few ways to get a non smart TV that’s still 65+ inches these days is if you bought a commercial TV for menus in drive through chains like McDonald’s. So a lot of reaturants statistically you would be safe from the TV itself but you have that self order menu now which is way worse. Or just their security cameras feed into the same systems flock uses.

If its an average nonchain restaurant they probably use cheap smart TV ob the wall for sports. Even if they don’t have any other bad survalience tech they’ll probably have that.

Everytime I bring this up there is one person that reminds me there is a brand that does basic non smart TV I just don’t remember the name or have ever looked into them.

  • Ai art is the least important issue in my opinion and doesnt feel worth persuing. People who make Ai art fundamentally don’t understand what art is and they won’t be successful outside of being clip art due to that. Art is many things so its hard to umbrella this for every type of art overall, but I think only the hand made things will be massively sucessful “blockbusters”, or be the next giant indie game to sell 20 million copies, etc. Mean while more and more giants will get consumed by this virus that figures out the best way to monitize the enjoyment out of everything to the point it fails. Destroying the things you once loved with it. The virus will then move on to the art you currently enjoy and you will move on to the next untained medium.

The way I see it is the people who see art as art have an appreciation inte story of the creator, and the way they can express their lived experience through art. Its like when you read a book and a movie is playing in your mind with your imagination, your minds eye. When people make art it comes from that place people use to express themselves. To show you what they see in their eyes.

And then theres people that are so tallented at a craft that the talent itself becomes a form of art, as their skill expression. Like sewing extra fancy patterns in to seems of a dress takes a functional skill and turns it into art. Even something as stupid as those call of duty montages is an artistic form on skill expression. You add some air horns and overrates electronic dance music and you have distilled the imagination of a 14 year old boy who just discovered hormones. Its still art and expression and gives you a glimpse in a moment of time that doesnt exist today, and you can see that persons goals, and insecurities despite how trivial or dumb it is.

The people who see ai generated images as art have always seen art as “content”. To them they don’t understand its the expression of ones self, but simply a way to get money. And if money is not involved then it doesnt matter. Its a means to a end. Its the reason people use it for posters, or lawn mowing yard signs. They will never really see art as this vague confusing concept like we do. Its like trying to explain love to someone who only understands lust, they think you are talking about the same thing. Some peoples distilled life experience or perspective can sometimes prevent them from making a connection that your brain makes, and I don’t think it is something you can explain to someone.

You know sometimes you can only see someone’s perspective through art. When I went to an art gallary most of the experience was reading about the artist. One particular artist has really disturbing facial art work, and it turns out that person suffered from some mental health issue that warped his perspective of faces. His/her art was a window into how their mind works. You don’t get any of that from Ai. There is no context or meaning, its just an assembly of words/pixels that didn’t come from anywhere with intention. They can only distill styles but without meaning. A picture is worth a thousand words, but a ai generated image robs those thousands of words of context making them meaningless.

And going back to the skill topic. So much of art is just for the enjoyment of developing your own skill set and the routine of putting that into practice that is the enjoyment. The whole fun of making art is making art. That rare moment when you can’t stop working on, it feels like having a manic episode. The whole point is the journey not the destination. Its like having ceremonial matcha tea, it takes like 2-4 hours and has a million steps. In the end the tea taste like shit, but its about the ritual, the process.

I just don’t want to be reminded of my past stupidity, and anything you feel “connected” with someone or something to the point of tattooing it on yourself its usually coming from a place of pure emotion or a thing of faith.

Also I don’t want to help the corniner identify my corpse. When I go out I want to be known as “pressumed dead.”

  • Microsoft does the same with github and their services.

What ever you code through them is just going to get stolen, and fed to someone else. And if its a really valuable idea theyll just vibe code their own version and push you out because they have more resources. The icing on the cake is Microsoft will kill the project in 2 months when inevidebly it fails, and Microsoft will still then have the balls to sue you for stealing their code that you wrote if you release your version.
