  • It depends on your tolerance for how bad that person is and how much you want to contribute to their financial well being. For JK Rowling, my opinion is that if JK just said she doesn’t like trans people, I’d disagree, but that by itself may not be a reason to not enjoy the work produced by her. However, she actively fights to put down trans people and spreads transphobia. That is reason enough for me to never do anything that will finance her and therefore support her actions.

In this case, Tolkein is long dead. Nothing I do now will contribute to him further pushing and supporting fascism.

Everyone gets to make this choice on their own. Nobody said you’re not allowed to enjoy that art. If you decide that you’re fine supporting artists through thick or thin and there’s no line they can cross that will turn you away, then you can’t be surprised or upset when other people change their opinion of you as a person. If you’re okay with that, then that’s fine, it’s your life, live it.

  • Negative, in this case it was LSD. It was just an anecdotal example of how some illegal substances mostly used for recreation can work as good if not better than many prescription or OTC drugs on the market. I’ve heard good thing about psilocybin as well for issues like depression and PTSD. Weed now being at least medically legal in many places is a testament to it’s medicinal benefits as well.

I really like seeing these types of articles, because these issues such as PTSD, depression, headaches, etc… can be absolutely debilitating, and it’s nice to see new options that can not only help, but do so very effectively.

  • I know a person that will get bad cluster headaches every 6 months to a year. The episodes last about 30+ minutes, can be triggered for a month+, and can be triggered by many things. Oxygen treatment is known to stop an attack when they start, but their doctor wouldn’t prescribe it, and insurance wouldn’t cover it. They joined some online support groups and ended up taking a tab of acid that eliminated them. Not just an attack, but they haven’t had any for a couple of months since.

It’s foolish to not at the very least allow medical research and clinical trials for any substance as long as there’s evidence that it can help. If meth cured cancer, meth should be be allowed to be administered by doctors.

  • I get it. More people need to push back on that kind of stuff. I jokingly refer to my wife as my accountant when the discussion of money comes up, but it’s because she’s literally an accountant. I then give her all of the accolades for why we are financially stable and get to do fun things. Nothing demeaning, and always followed up with high praise.

  • I have friends with kids and are in happy living relationships, but they’re definitely not upset to get some away time from the chaos of young children when they go to school or daycare. That’s not to say they don’t love them or love being around them, but it’s a lot of work and a break isn’t inherently a negative thing.

I don’t like boomer humour like making constant insults about one’s in laws or their spouse. I do think that your coworker definitely came with the wrong tone and probably fits that bill. Solid in you for shutting that shit down.

  • For me, it’s situational. I’ll ask if I can borrow them for a minute, and it’s usually a small question, not a request to do a task. I’m fortunate that I work on a really good team and we are all decently close and respectful to one another, and everyone likes helping each other out when they can. I would say our culture is a bit of an anomaly.

I’ve asked people in other departments for small things and been told to create a ticket. That’s fine, I’m not going to be upset about it, but if that person is just sitting and sitting the shit, it is irritating to force extra steps when it’s not necessary.
