The Supreme Court on Tuesday appeared skeptical of Colorado’s effort to require Catholic preschools to allow parents who do not follow Catholic beliefs to be allowed into its universal preschool program, teeing up a potential fourth major loss for the Centennial State on First Amendment cases at the Supreme Court in the past decade.

The high court heard oral arguments in St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy, a case involving the state’s decision to bar Catholic preschools from its universal preschool programs because they refuse to comply with standards requiring schools to admit any child. Colorado defended its decision because it required the Catholic preschools to accept all families, including those who do not share Catholic beliefs, to be part of the state program. The coalition of Catholic schools argued that asking them to admit families who do not follow Catholic teachings would sacrifice their beliefs, which they say violates their First Amendment rights.

A majority of the justices appeared likely to side with the Catholic schools. A main point of contention was the state’s concern that the schools would likely bar the children of same-sex couples, as same-sex marriage goes against Catholic doctrine.

      Supreme Court enters the chat

Now, hold on there. Are these beliefs…sincerely held? This changes everything. Also, we don’t like weirdos. So…there?

This is really just a foot in the door for religious institutions to deny accommodations to basically anyone. No shelter for single moms during hurricanes, no food to trans men at the food bank, no clothes for newborns of gay couples, no surgery at the Catholic Hospital for donating to Planned Parenthood. Only a matter of time before they find some inherent way to exclude people of color.

Hot take: All private schools, ESPECIALLY Religious schools should be shut down and made illegal.

Republicans bitch all the time about not wanting their kids indoctrinated at school, then support the largest indoctrination of kids systems possible.

Shut them all down. You don’t have a right to your child’s future, that’s their future. And their future becomes a member of OUR society that we have to deal with.

    1. How is it universal day care if they’re picking and choosing who gets to attend?

    2. If they back this school, what’s to stop an atheist (or Muslim, or Satanic Temple, or Jewish, etc) day care from refusing to admit Christians?
