I’m glad we made all those laws about monopolies and stuff. Would be bad if one were to be created in any sector in this country. But with hard work, and a watchful agency, we can protect ourselves from those dangers.

Sure glad it’s all still working. ಠ_ಠ

The article doesn’t say how they’re planning to pay for Instacart. They could be planning to take on billions of dollars in debt for all we know.

That still means the same thing though. If they’re planning to take billions of debt, they and their lender think they’re either making good money today or they’d be making it in the future. Or in other words they can either pay their workers more today or in the future. 😁

Or they are going to do the typical private equity thing and transfer the debt to instacart as soon as they are acquired and then use the debt as an excuse for instacart to go bankrupt in a few years (or months) and walk away one competitor less in the market.

Oh no they will, once you’ve enshittified the business you operate, you have to enshittify the entire business sector, during all of that you have to enshittify our government agencies in order to trade your corporate dumps on the populace for cash.

              “Capitalism! It’s working for someone!”

If they pull the private equity BS, door dash will make loads while instacart posts nothing but losses ‘for unknown reasons, probably just a downturn in the market or something’.

instacart already barely pays its instore shoppers, something to do with what kind of orders are given to them. also different chains grocery will probably limit how much instacarts are in a grocery chain at anyone time.

they started even before amazon had thier instore shoppers(now wf shoppers), and they dint really get big at all.

Careful, you’ll have cherrypickers coming in to defend/tell you how wrong you are for disliking “gig economy” apps when they’re a literal scam meant to keep the middle and lower classes subservient.

These cherrypickers are apparently making bank just doing these deliveries though, and we totally shouldn’t question their methods, how many apps they actually work for, or whether they’re just straight up lying.

I hate doordash, Ubereats, grubhub, any of them. It’s such bullshit to be constantly accepting orders that pay literally $2.50 for driving them a coffee from the one place they need it from across the county.

I get my groceries delivered once a month from Instacart because I’m blind, so if I wanted to go grocery shopping myself, I would have to spend money on an Uber to take me there, then get a shopping assistant to help me pick up the stuff I need, and then pay for an Uber back home, so it actually ends up being cheaper to just get it delivered, and I can see what I’m purchasing in the app.

i see where its disabled people use apps like prime whole food shopping too. its useful for these people. also well off people use it to, so they dont have to spend time to go to the store when they are working at home.

Where I’m from we have services for folks like you through our local grocery stores, I wish that was the case everywhere. The people that work for the grocery stores get paid better too.

That’s fucking bullshit! Anti-competitive, monopolistic practices like this should be blocked by the anti-trust laws that we have in place to protect against precisely this!

    What the fuck.

Flabbergasted that people will pay so much to have McDonald’s delivered.

    Top Ordered Food Nationwide:

    Fries

    Chicken Quesadilla

    Mozzarella Sticks

    Garlic Naan

    Spicy Chicken Sandwich

    Pepperoni Pizza

    Chips & Queso

    Traditional Wings

    Cobb Salad

I wonder if it’s gotten so expensive to eat out, that the delivery fee doesn’t appear as bad any more (comparatively)

It was 40-fucking-dollars to get two meals at carls Jr. I’ll never go there again and would rather buy local than a chain, but even another $10 wouldn’t look too bad for delivery

I don’t do delivery so idk what the actual cost is

it’s mostly tip, and tip is optional.

if you pay them a monthly free, like 10 bucks, you get no delivery fees. if you order like twice a month, it pays for itself.

you also often get coupons, discounts, etc. i use these services because I can get $50 in food delivered to my door for like $25.

I’m flabbergasted at the amount of energy their occupation demands of them so much that it makes delivering naan and fries worth the cost in contrast to the time and energy savings it takes to get it yourself. Sounds like people are getting overworked or otherwise anxious. It’s not like people are doing it for the cost savings.

It’s dumber when you consider that cooking is not only fun, but once you’re good at it, it’s really fast and easy to make a way better meal than you’d ever get.

I can make a better smash burger than 95% of the bullshit places popping up, and for a literal fraction of the cost.

Lots of people struggle with things like dishes, which makes things like cooking not realistic or fun option. And getting out of that rut is hard.

Nearly everything on that list tastes better fresh and hot.

Chinese and pizza are typical delivery items because there’s a pizza joint in every neighborhood and Chinese can sit an hour with very little change to the food but why would anyone pay double or triple for McDonald’s when their fries are gross and soggy fifteen seconds out of the fryer?
