My instance admin is the one from lemmy.world. I hope this instance updates soon, it’s a bit of a bad look for a fediverse service if its biggest instance is running an older version of the software…

EDIT: So I found out why lemmy.world remains on an older version. Turns out there’s some systems in 0.17.4 that limit bot signups, that are not present in 0.18. So until that limiter’s put in place, this instance remains on an older version.

          Where I found that

Yesterday i talked to a guy who is convinced that unix is a programming language and not an operating system. To top it he told he worked with it

There was a programming language that used Windows Folder to write code. Maybe he uses something similar on an Unix like Os.

How I feel when I talk to libs and right wingers who think listening to podcasts and watching corporate news makes them informed.

And see this is the point right here. Current events without any knowledge of history of political science breeds idiocy.

If you want an informed opinion, read books about it.

Then maybe I’ll respect your opinion on current events.

You can read books all you want, but a book written last year won’t tell you anything about, say, a shoddily built recreational submersible that just imploded near the Titanic. But you wouldn’t know since you only use books for getting your opinions on current events. Nothing against books at all, they’re good stuff. But they lag behind current events due to very obvious reasons.
