Oh no Americans marry their children too.

Between 2000 and 2021, some 315,000 minorswere legally married in the United States.[23] The vast majority of child marriages (some 86%) were between a minor girl and an adult man.

And wouldn’t you know it? The same states where child marriage is legal are also states where marital rape is treated as legally distinct from non-marital rape. In Iowa, for example, subsection (2) of article 709.4 Sexual abuse in third degree, excludes sexual acts committed by adults with children as young as 12, provided the parties are “cohabiting as husband and wife.”

God damn, not even the Vatican has laws like that now. Their age of consent went from 12 to 18 recently. I believe the marriage exception got raised to 14, which is still kind of wild, but not Iowa levels. Many of those laws are in place for, and exceptional to, accomodating marriages that occured in a culture where it is acceptable but the marriage is obviously no longer in that country/culture.

For those that consider marriage “a thing” these laws are intended to balance the respect of marriage and respect the immaturity of a young mind and body. For those, like me, that recognise there is literally no purpose for marriage, they’re entirely insane laws to go that low.

Actually the reason is the US uses 3M$ anti-missile missiles to intercept 20k$ drones. It was obvious from the start they would run out of them way while Iran would keep producing more of their drones (plus the ones they get from Russia).

It’s quite unbelievable they the US were so confident in their capabilities they didn’t bother to learn anything from the war in Ukraine, where swarms of cheap drones have replaced advanced but costly missiles for years now.

So the money may be genuinely used on weapons (and well, lobsters and steaks…). It’s just spent stupid.

They could fund a public healthcare system twice over with the money the federal government is already spending providing piece meal health care through several inefficient programs. The war crime fund could solve the housing problem though.

Th government is using health care to force people to continue working. They know they can fund it. They also know if healthcare becomes free in the US, there are lots of people who can just stop working. If they made healthcare free I’d likely be able to stop working by age 45
