Well, it depends on who you ask. Conservatism is maintaining the status quo and tradition, hence the name. But Republicans aren’t aiming for that, they want to actively remove protections, ostensibly as a return to tradition, but the historic time they describe never existed. Therefore, because they are destroying, they are regressives.
Currently, the party taking the “hold on now, let’s not be hasty, this is how we’ve always done it” stance is the Democrats. And we don’t have a major progressive party.
