Donald Trump said Tuesday that Canada will have to pay US$61 billion to be part of his “Golden Dome” space-based missile defence plan — but would pay nothing if it becomes part of the U.S., a message he claimed to have “told Canada” himself.

The social media post came hours after King Charles III delivered the speech from the throne in Canada’s Parliament, which particularly focused on asserting Canada’s sovereignty and included plans for bolstering national defence.

I’m glad Trump is finally fixing this problem. Every fucking day I get in my car to drive somewhere and there’s a big pothole, the road is closed, or my destination was directly hit by an incoming missile. The worst are those unguided ones. They don’t even know or care where they’re going to land! The weak democrats are too busy using pronouns and protesting the border to even talk about the problem of the constant missile and rocket strikes entering our airspace and striking our land.

i mean, there is a bit of an excuse for a wall in the border now.

the same way i suspect there will be a bit of an excuse for a “golden dome” too.

It’s what Orban did, and other Authoritarians, on whom the whole administration based their plan on. They get other aspects “right”… but I guess that is when Trump isn’t the one talking.

the mafia used to be good friends with old school unions back in the day. they would help them create “forever projects” like subway systems that went nowhere, or roads that went nowhere, sewers and drainage systems that werent necessary. mainly to get money from government contracts that would keep everyone paid. usually by bribing or threatening officials to sign off on the contracts.

this is “forever project” for elon.

pointless. as satellites can be easily hacked by “bad actors” as china and russia have proven already, and with the advances in AI automated systems advancing every day, or even them succumbing to “poisoning” with misleading data. this will be, much like the wall, full of fucking holes. this is just another way for them to drain more money out of americans, while attempting to scare canada into giving up “the cookies” and enriching those contracted to build these projects. which will be of course, subpar, abd wont work as advertised, if it ever actually gets off the ground.

it is possible for ANYONE to mess with a satellite, with the right know how and equipment. you dont have to be a world super power to do it. russia and china have demonstrated that they can already target and deactivate satellites. i literally watched a guy on youtube demonstrate how to do it with scrapped dishes from ebay and DIY arrays. fucking anonymous has done it several times to russia already.

long story short. its fucking stupid and it will likely cost as much as they want it to. based on a more realistic metric than the one they provided, somewhere just shy of 1 trillion dollars. 850 + or - billion. i would not be surprised if somewhere down the line they would find the need to “upgrade the existing system” and give even more tax payer money to billionaires and contractors for more of these forever projects.

its a big fucking expensive ass show.

and if anything it might also be possible to have those satellites turned AGAINST the US, to block their own nukes, while the enemies hit their now unguarded targets.

    Here’s my wild theory:

The US has strategic planning. They decide that they need Canada or at least Greenland for security. They formulate a plan to destabilize the world a little near the north…they poke Putin since he has need messing with Ukraine. Meanwhile we choose Cheeto TACO. Well, not us, the electoral college. Cheeto goes bonkers at the complex plan and thinks countries are pussies so they let you grab them when you’re famous. Cheeto goes to Greenland directly and explains the very secret need…we need Greenland for security so hand it over please, we’ll pay you. As expected by any 3 year old, that fails. So he goes to Canada and fails again because Cheeto is unable to learn. And here we are revealing another section of the very secret plan…we would create a defense system to protect our selves from Putin if things got out of hand.

Had Cheeto not gone revealing secrets Canada may have become our new state and we all would be proud of it…like the Louisiana purchase. In a peaceful way. But Cheeto is… Deficit of thinking… So he deflated that effort and here we are!

Let’s take a look at how Cheeto would have handled the bay of pigs or D day or Hiroshima… Hello Germany, yes I have exactly 23,000 men armed to the teeth who will attack on dday…a very secret date…if you don’t stop your war. Please let them get off their boats, that’s kind of a weakness in the design. But right after, we’re good for a win!

Someone who can’t control simple, yet important secrets for the success of a plan, should not be the president. This is again, all wild theories, I just woke up and I’m staring at the sealing just hoping that today Cheeto did not invade China or kidnapped the Mexican president as a way to make a deal on Sprite. As you know, soda cans keep getting more expensive and smaller!

One of the defining cultural traits of our northern neighbors is that they ain’t us. There’s nothing that fills Canadians with more pride than not being Americans. They were never going to be a single state and they weren’t even going to become 10 or 13.

And didn’t take but a few scrolls:

      https://lemmy.today/post/30393382

Cheeto pulls the plug on Bird flu vaccine.

As a reminder, it took like 10 years to develop the covid vaccines. Researchers had identified that virus as a possible pandemic source a while back. I don’t know all the details, just that we are lucky all those people had time to work on a vaccine. And more lucky because there was more than one team doing the same. The art of the deal is you prepare leverage so you can get the best bargain. Here Cheeto is undoing leverage and revealing it to the world. Now if a bird flu pandemic starts, all we have to do is just get into debt with another country who did prepare for the event. But I don’t have to explain how stupid this move is.

If Canada entered collectively as a single state (pure nonsense, but hear me out), they’d get two senators and 1 representative to the house. The apportionments for US representatives would need to be raised to account for 40 million new people, which my guess wouldn’t happen, so instead California and Canada (who have almost equal populations) would just trade off allocations of representatives alternating with New York and Texas. Canada would end up with a lot of representatives in the House this way but wouldn’t be nearly as powerful as adding 20 senators if the provinces entered as individual states.

All said, not all of these seats would go democrat, but the GOP definitely wouldn’t be able to guarantee majorities or stalemates in both houses like they have been for the past 20-30 years. Even if the Trump admin pulled this con off and annexed Canada as a US territory, the GOP would just block entry as a state since I can’t imagine this Congress passing a joint resolution to allow it. Furthermore, Congress doesn’t even have to consider adding a new state even if the population of that territory keep petitioning for it (see ongoing D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood petitions).

Shit would get really complicated when the US has to handle the dissolution of parliament, withdrawal from the Commonwealth, and Quebec.

There’s also land treaties with First Nations.

I’d like to see how his plan to be part of the common wealth goes.

I’m guessing day one King Charles kicks him out and immediately calls for a dissolution of the entire US government. You’re all Canadians now.

          FIXT.

Let me simplify that for you. Canada doesn’t want it. We are unified on that. Any “annexation” would be a violent one. Is the US ready for violence at its doorstep instead of across an ocean or two? By people who look just like you guys?

Oh, I’m with you. I was just diving really deep into how absurd the 51st rhetoric is on our side.

It is clear that there is no intention of treating Canada fairly and, as you rightly pointed out, annexation would be violent and justifiably so.

It should surprise no one that this doesn’t make sense with anti-ballistic missile technology. Even if you were willing to wait for the terminal phase so that you could be sure to block the nukes headed for Detroit and let slide the ones headed for Toronto, you might still see that there is a tiny problem. 90% of Canadians live within a 100mi of the Boarder.
