The borrow checker makes things a bit more complicated to get running, definitely takes some getting used to when you come from a non-memory safe language. I’m sorry, but this is giving me massive “of course I support feminism, but <insert activist> goes too far/is too hysteric” vibes. You can suggest better communication strategies, of course (or better yet, use them yourself), if you think you know better how to convince people to stop killing animals. But only criticizing vegans for their tone, and then finishing with “I think the world needs more vegans” does not make you sound supportive at all.
