  • Yeah exactly. All these AI that go rogue when you actually look into it it turns out they haven’t gone rogue they’re obeying their prompting, it’s just that they were asked to do something that was impossible unless they hacked the pentagon or something. They then claim that it went rogue despite it very clearly following their instructions.

It’s negligence is what it is. If you don’t prompt an AI to do anything it just sits there, inert, it’s the so-called experts in the AI labs that of the problem.

  • I think I fall a bit between the people who use it for everything and your opinion of it.

I get that it’s basically just a prediction engine but thinking of it like that is unhelpful in my opinion. I’ve seen AI rewrite entire code bases overnight that would have taken a team of humans over a year. It’s obviously useful technology it’s just people have this tendency to overuse it.

It’s kind of like how in the early 2000s they were putting Bluetooth in everything. Eventually we’ll work out what it’s useful for and only use it to that we just have to wait for the frenzy to die down.

  • I don’t understand what people use it for. At work I use it because it’s much easier to ask an AI than try and deal with our crap internal documentation. People who use AI in their personal lives are just weird to me.

The only technology I really use is a digital calendar, which is an objectively superior product to the paper-based calendar simply because it gets updated by the whole family and stays in sync. I don’t have smart light switches, or cameras in every room, if a hard drive on my computer breaks then I lose all my data there’s nothing on there that I really care about, I might be ultra weird because I even get my photos printed.

It’s not a hobby though. Or a personal preference like veganism, it’s a belief system based on an incredibly unimaginative fairy tail.

Somebody may very into collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards but they would quite rightfully be called crazy if they started to insist that they really had magic powers. There is quite an important distinction between an interesting hobby that you kind of suspension of disbelief, believe in, versus an actual astrology theolog who insists that it’s all real.
