We’ve already been through this in 2014. That doesn’t work with russia. They will simply invade again and people in Ukraine know this.
If Ukraine doesn’t get back Crimea and other lost territories, it’s a bit of a disappointing end result.
But I understand perfectly well if Ukraine wants an end to this war.But Zelensky has expressed many times that Russia will just rearm and try again, unless something is done to prevent that.
So there has to be more to this than Russia just promising to stop the war.It’s not about Crimea or the occupied part of Donbas (and Kherson and Zaporizhie).
This issue is the Russians won’t stop.

Indeed, this is a terrible development. Especially since Orban is hosting the event, receiving a war criminal (2 by now, with Trump’s illegal actions in the Caribbean) on EU territory.
At this point Zelensky is mostly sweet talking Trump, maybe to keep intelligence flowing, and the weapons Europe is allowed to buy from USA to Ukraine at an extra marked up price that goes to the US government.
But we don’t need USA much longer, and I doubt Zelensky will agree to a deal where Russia gives nothing.Trump claimed earlier that Zelensky doesn’t have any cards, but the truth is all Ukraine is in a stronger position than ever, and Russia is on the verge of economic, military and political collapse. Which happen first we will have to wait and see.
But it won’t be long now.
Calling it “a bit” disappointing is an understatement. There are people who lived in Crimea but had to lose their life’s investments in property after the 2014 invasion, then they had to lose family members, friends and neighbors, if not their own lives to the war. Getting the land back for a new beginning is at least some consolation for something that can never be returned, though after the irreparable losses, the people of Ukraine deserve plenty more than what they had before 2014.

I think this explanation has worn pretty thin given how many terrible scandals Trump has just sailed on through without consequence.
I suspect the real explanation is simply that Trump has a tiny little boner for Putin and so is easily wrapped around Putin’s finger every time they talk.
If it’s not just a scandal, but something Trump would actually have to go to prison for, I think it would still be very significant.
No, the point is that Trump is beyond going to prison for anything in the US. He owns the justice system, and he knows it.
Ukraine makes around 70+% of the weapons it needs domestically, we (EU + Norway, Canada, Japan, Australia …) can do this without the USA.
What a disgrace the whole USA has become, I guess they have to go through the whole “become a modern country” thing too.

Can’t say the same about Germany (Merkel is still trying to Baltics/Poland for russian genocidal imperialism and Schröder is a direct collaborator). And Germany isn’t the only example (forget about Hungary, that’s a basket case in this context).
Germany is painfully slow to act, but it has objectively been the biggest backer of Ukraine in terms of material and financial support outside of the USA. It generally seems to need someone else to take the first step, but will follow through once someone does. That’s a hell of a lot better than Hungary
What you’re saying about German support is indeed true (that’s why I said it’s not even worth discussing Hungary), but it’s also undeniably true that both Merkel and Schröder were commited supporters of russian genocidal imperialism.

I will note that she has never made any statements around the universal support for imperialism among the russians (84% supported the annexation of Crimea and this is with preference falsification accounted for). Yet she is clearly comfortable blaming Poland and the Baltic nations, that warned her that the russians cannot be trusted and are incapable of good faith actions or negotiations.
