And then there’s people like my once naïve ass, who just blunder their way through attempted muggings. The first time someone tried to mug me, this guy was asking for money at like 2am, and when I told him I couldn’t help him, he said, “You know, I got heat.” I told him that was good, at least, because my landlord was a dick and my apartment was cold as hell, since they still hadn’t turned on the heat for the building. Got back home, and my wife was like, “You idiot, you know he was telling you he had a gun, right?”

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say some fat people may surprise you with their strength. They throw around more weight quite often, it’s stamina that’s lacking. A single, forceful attack is believable to me.

Tried running away from my house one time when I was about 12, my stepfather was 400+lbs and closed the distance to my flat-out 90lbs pretty damn quick. Only got as far as ~20 metres. Fast as a hippo

My BIL is literally twice my weight,if not more; and has several inches of height on me.

Severity can be promoted by need. For example, his drunk ass wanted to get off the couch to threaten his sister (my wife). I introduced him to the floor, rapidly.

Speed and skill can overcome size. That being said, I’ve always been on the smaller side of stature and weight, and a hit from someone twice your size hurts when they connect. Period.

As someone that experienced childhood abuse and now deals with anger management issues, I ‘agree’ with the average American on the point that “violence solves all problems”/violence is the go-to tool and not the last resort… It’s not right though!

Honestly better stats for the US than I thought they’d be. Surprised that my state’s obesity rates are better than any number of European countries despite the situation here still not seeming great.

Wondering if that is an endorsement of things my state is doing right or an indictment of the countries in Europe that are somehow worse.

It gets much worse when you look at the outliers. 9.4% of the US had severe obesity (BMI>40) in 2023.

The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are around 1%, I couldn’t even find a number for France that was more than “<1%”.
